Nursing Schools Search - Methods and Theories
There are literally hundreds of ways nurses can be utilized or utilize their skills in the service of others. When considering studying for a career in nursing, it’s best to begin with the ideal that a nurse must have excellent communication skills, an ability to remain calm under extreme pressure and proactive enough to take action when it is necessary.

These are talents that a person can develop through their pursuit of study. Depending on the program the prospective nurse is studying, it’s important to make sure you understand the course requirements, expectations and direction. There are many two-year programs offered by local community colleges.

One theory of learning is to submerse yourself into your subjects. Make them a vital part of your day-to-day life. Clearly setting your goals, giving yourself plenty of time to study and in this case, absorb the information is as important as attending the classes themselves. It’s a truism that a student should expect to spend 9 to 10 hours a week outside of class on a 3 credit hour course. If a student is carrying 12 to 15 credit hours in a semester then they can expect to spend around 45 to 50 hours a week in study time, preparation and review for their courses.

Once a student has completed their program whether it is a two year, four year, post-graduate or through hospital training, there is a state licensing board exam that all registered nurses are required to pass in order to achieve their status as an R.N. No matter which path a student follows towards their goal in the field of nursing, it’s important to ‘learn’ the information, ‘absorb’ it and most importantly, ‘retain’ it. Studying for a state licensing board exam is not like cramming for a test in 24 hours. It requires confidence in the information and the ability to act on that information.
