Nursing Schools Search - What Schools Look For – Am I a good fit?
You’ve found the school you want to go to. You’ve applied for entrance to the program you want to study and you’re starting to get nervous about the interview or about the first day. You wonder, am I going to be a good fit with their program? What if I’m not smart enough? What if I don’t make the cut?

Even students returning to college after completing a previous degree can find themselves wondering these same questions. They aren’t about nerves, but about making the best choices for yourself and your goals.

If you find yourself asking these questions and having no answers for them, then it’s time to ask some different questions:
  • Are you a caregiver? Do you like to take care of people?
  • Do you enjoy solving puzzles or mysteries?
  • Are you prepared to spend long days reading, writing, and studying and reviewing scientific information?
  • Are you comfortable with committing scientific data to memory?
  • Do you feel very comfortable with studying the ethical and realistic issues related to terminal illness, death and disease?
  • Have you taken a look at what the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) requires?
  • Does the idea of working in a hospital, school, health center, clinic or doctor’s office for clinical practice worry you?
If you can answer these questions yes, then you’re a good candidate for the nursing program you’ve selected. Nursing is a career that requires an inquisitive, but flexible mind that is equally ready to sort scientific data and personal information. Nurses will have a lot of contact with patients; they have to be comfortable with people and with themselves. They need to be confident in their abilities so their patients can be confident in them.

Nurses will see the best and the worst. They will see lives beginning and unfortunately, lives ending. They will see families brought together in joy and in sorrow. It is a psychologically, physically, mentally and emotionally challenging career that all begins with the first day of the first class of the nursing program.
