Nursing Schools Search - Choosing a Nursing School
When you are choosing a school to further your education, there are many factors to take into account. The primary factor will be career choice. For nursing, you are looking for nursing schools at either community or four-year universities that offer specific programs in the field of nursing you are interested in. Nursing colleges can also be found at some University Campuses.
The location and cost may weigh into your selection, however there are numerous financial assistance programs available both through the school as well as private programs. The field of nursing is a rapidly growing and developing one. There is a constant demand for nurses, especially highly skilled ones.
During your research phase, examine the credentials of the nursing programs you are interested in. Have the colleges been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Research to discover the percentage of graduates from that program passed the state licensing exams. When talking to a counselor about the program, find out how much clinical training is offered, where and do they place you or do you have to seek placement.
Depending on your career goals, if you plan to work in areas or with patients that English is not likely to be the first language, does the school offer foreign language courses? In the case of Community Colleges, there is a chance you will have to commute between two or more campuses to complete all the required programs toward the degree. Finally, if you think you’ve made your best choice, see if you can arrange a meet with a previous graduate of the program to ascertain their opinions and experiences.
